J. G. Whitmore

John George Whitmore provided powdered and bottled ginger beer and lemonade as well as syrup to the settlers of Wellington from 1855. He first advertised his wares in the 'Wellington Independent' from December 15th to 29th 1855, as below, with the first of these notices being carried through to February 23rd 1856 and again in November 1856.

THESE truly Refreshing Summer Drinks can be had in any quantity at the moderate price of one and sixpence per dozen at J.G. WHITMORE's
Lambton Quay.

J.G. WHITMORE, Manufacturer of Cordials, Syrups, Liqueurs, British Wines, Mineral and Aerated Waters, &c. &c., having just received a complete and extensive stock of materials, together with all the appliances necessary for every branch of his business, is now prepared to execute orders for any of the following Goods, viz, Cherry Brandy, Noyeas, Cherry Cordial, Curacoa, Cherry Bounce, Hippocras, Rum Punch, Ratafia, Pine Apple Punels, Perryade, Roman Punch, Dantzic Spruce, Rum Shrub, Raspberry Vinegar, Brandy Bitters, Raspberry Nectar, Gin Bitters, Raspberry Wine, Tonic Bitters, Ginger Wine, Ginger Cordial, Green Ginger Wine, Cloves Cordial, Peppermint, Ginger Tonic, Strawberry Syrup, Lemon Syrup, Cappellaire, Pine Apple Syrup &c, &c, &c.
The Advertiser has no desire to puff his Goods, but begs to say that any Article purchased from him which does not give entire satisfaction, will be taken back and the money returned.
