An advertisement in the 1882 'Bishops Illustrated Guide' indicates W. F. Ross operated a business from Lambton Quay, opposite the Bank of New Zealand from where he sold aerated fruit drinks. He was also a wholesale and retail Fruiterer and manufactured ice cream.
