R. Barry
1844
In February 1844, the 'New Zealand Gazette and Wellington Spectator' published a supplement comprising of a list of all Wellington residents qualified to serve as "Jurors for the District of Wellington for the year 1844." The street address and occupation was listed with the potential jurors' name.
Richard Barry, Thorndon Quay, was described as a ginger beer maker on this list however it appears this occupation was short-lived as he was not mentioned in the following year's document.
Barry later became the publican of the Ship Hotel in Wellington, and was still operating in this capacity in 1866. He also became involved in 'Barry's Market', a livestock saleyard which operated in Wellington during the mid 1860s.
There are no known bottles marked with "R. Barry".
