Robert Donaldson was a School Master at Murphy Street (February 1849 Province of New Munster Gazette) before becoming involved in the aerated water industry. He placed an advertisement in the 'Wellington Independent' on July 18th to 25th 1849:

THE Subscriber has now on hand, for Sale:-

Superior Ginger Cordial, at 18s, p doz.

ALSO

A small quantity of superior Isinglass Finings,

at 2s. p bottle. One bottle will be fine down

and clarify, a hhd.

Orders left at Mr. Cameron's, Queen's Head,

Thorndon Flat, will be punctually attended to.

By 1854 Donaldson was concentrating more on the pharmaceutical side of his business, and in the February 1854 'New Zealand Government Gazette' he was described as a Chemist at "River Hutt".
