The founder of Direct Aerated Water Supply (DAWS) Ltd, Mr. Harry Simmonds snr. arrived in New Zealand from Kent, England prior to World War One. And he formed the Wellington Aerated Water Co. which was purchased by Thomson Lewis & Co. in 1917. When Mr. Simmonds sold the business, he agreed not to establish another soft drink company in the Wellington area for at least five years.
