Bennett & Ready
1897 - 1920
Robert Ready was born in 1829. In 1897 he teamed up with Alex Ready to purchase Mrs. Dixon's factory at 3 Dixon Street and applied for registration of their trademark on 22nd July of that year. Interestingly, Bennett & Ready continued to make use of the letters 'G.D.' (George Dixon) on their bottles throughout their twenty-plus years in business. This was probably an attempt to ride on the popularity of George Dixon's name and branding efforts.
Robert Ready died on 12th November 1905, aged 76. In 1908 the business was listed as trading from 249 Willis Street and it continued to trade until the Phoenix Aerated Water Co. Ltd. took the company over in 1920.
